employed.im is taking off into the New Year with a new look

By Hannah Wild on 10th January 2019

employed.im, the Island’s employability and skills portal, has launched an exciting new-look website! Since it’s inception in 2008 as ‘Manx Graduates’, employed.im has transformed to meet the evolving needs of the Island’s employability market. In recent years employed.im has undergone significant changes to help support the Island’s school work experience and specific sector skills programmes. The website has been refreshed to reflect the wider range of employability and skills services provided through these local partnerships.

The team at employed.im are working with a range of local organisations including the Manx ICT Association (MICTA), Awareness of Careers in Engineering (ACE), the Isle of Man Construction Federation (IOMCF), Career Ready Isle of Man and the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce to support and coordinate a number of local initiatives developing sector skills.

Lorna Trevethan, General Manager

employed.im’s General Manager, Lorna Trevethan, works closely with the Island’s sector committees, the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce and the Island’s schools. Lorna commented, “We have formed fantastic relationships with ICT, construction, engineering and mentoring programmes locally to provide young adults with the opportunity to gain valuable industry insight and work experience. Working with committee’s such as MICTA, ACE and Career Ready has shown the dedication of these groups to work together and help bridge the gap between education and employment.”

Could you offer work experience?

Many people will be familiar with employed.im as the coordinators of Isle of Man’s Year 10 Work Experience Programme, in conjunction with the Department of Education, Sport and Culture. The employed.im portal supports students going out on work experience, a business hosting a work placement, or parents supporting their child about to embark on their week in the workplace.

The 2018/2019 work experience programme has just launched, with the first cohort of students due to go out on work experience placements in March 2019. If you would like to know more about the benefits of hosting a work experience placement, for both your business and for the student, visit www.employed.im/workexperience

Carrie Yates, Work Experience Coordinator

Work Experience Coordinator, Carrie Yates is already making fantastic contacts across a wide cross section of local businesses; “It’s been great to meet so many new people and professionals who are equally passionate in supporting the development of young adults. We encourage students to approach businesses directly throughout the year, to support them in working independently and grow their professional development skills. However, we also need a bank of placements so that students can see the diverse opportunities available across all sectors on the island, and also provide options for students who may not be in a position to approach businesses directly. Thank you so much to those employers who have already offered 2018/19 placements, we really appreciate your continued support.”

Entering their fourth year as the Island’s work experience coordinators, the employed.im team is looking forward to the year ahead and to continuing their work in facilitating relationships between the Island’s schools and workforce.

If you can help us provide placements, then please complete our online form my.employed.im/placementprovider. If you’d like to find out more, Carrie can arrange a visit to tell you more about the work experience programme and the benefits it can offer your company.  Contact Carrie on [email protected] or call 664000 to arrange a visit.
